Equality Charter School Under the Gun

Wow, finally some good news at MY corrupt, failing charter school. 70% of the kids are not proficient in Math or ELA. Principal and assistant principal created two new positions as Deans and hired their unqualified men for the jobs. And that's just a small part of the corruption and cronyism...

Less than 3 days before the application deadline for high schools, the principal informed 8th grade parents that the school is revising it's charter and no longer going to high school! There's a whole lot more stuff at my school. We're the poster DoE charter with no oversight and an incompetent board.

We have no money. Our space agreement expires in June and there are no public hearings for our resiting. Oh, what a mess.

My school makes Ross Global and East NY Prep charters look good.

I communicate with my school for everything through my attorney. Let's hope the assistant principal is going to clean up the schools act by firing her live in boyfriend and starting fresh. Otherwise, she needs to go to.

I wonder if this is the result of SCI's investigation of my school...

Ms. Mona Davis seem excited about this event, but my question is "what about the children?" Ms. Davis has been beating this school down from the very beginning instead of trying to work together with the principal for the betterment of our children. We live in co op city, why can't we have a school of our own in the neighborhood that will accomodate of young men and women? Why do we have to go out of our neighborhood for better schooling? Its ashame that we cannot work together for the betterment of our community. For example if you look within the Muslin and Jewish communities, the work together for the betterment of their community, instead of beating each other down.

Another thing respect and discipline comes from home. The teachers are only their to reinforce it.

Let's be clear. I fought and led the fight to get Equality into our community and the PS160 building.

Yes, I am happy JoAnn Myers is gone. Good riddance to her incompetent, corrupt management. She was a poor leader where under her tenure our school had 21% student attrition rate, 50%+ teacher/staff turnover, 70% of the kids are NOT proficient in English or Math, 83% of parents felt feared for their kids safety because 94% of the time fights were breaking out at the school, and violated the IEP's and rights of special needs students!!!

She also hired her husband for a newly created position of Dean with no qualifications. She notified 8th grade parents a few days before the high school applications deadline that our school is not going to 9th grade leaving parents scrambling for a school and missed opportunities for kids to test or audition for specialized schools.

The fish rots from the head. She made our school which is only in it's second year a failing, financially mismanaged, corrupt charter school.

It's about time the board let her go. They should have shown her the door a long time ago.

Hopefully, the school can turnaround and provide our kids with the high quality education they promised us.

Hopefully,

In regards to your comment at 9:18 pm, please let us not get lost in the same energy where we are firing teachers in the time we need qualify teachers to educate our children and build our community. This is what our dear brother Martin Luther King foreseen. This is the attitude we want to stay free off. These so call numbers are the same type of numbers that our government uses to tell us what our crime level is at/housing rate etc. I have a direct link with city government and I am familiar with the numbers. However, this does not alter the fact that we need to find a way to work together to build our educational system in our community, which is simply not to make this into a competition about Jamaican/personal as oppose to credential of the individual. Why can we just simply build an educational system to make our children to be the best that they can be in whatever career path they will follow by simply removing our personal egos which as we know is mans biggest destruction as people do in other communities? Let us not hope that this is a personal vendetta, because our children are the ultimate goal in our community. In reference to your remarks about the teachers turn over, I am aware of the turnover and the reason it was done was due to the poor performance of teachers in the classroom. After all our goals are for the betterment of our children which I am sure you are in agreement with. Kids will be kids, but as I stated parent need to provide good examples for their children. For example, my children came from high scale Catholic Schools and I can tell you it was no different from the charter/public schools. Let us not battle with what occurred with the 8th graders it a done deal. Let us not lose site of the possibilities and growth that we have build and what we can build and move ahead with for the future of our children. Also, let not us forget the goals is our children in our society not any personal goals of our own. As we are human there is no one from God to common man who is not perfect. Let there be no one as I this writer and anyone on the face of this earth who is not guilty of imperfections.

As a student representing ECS I find some of these statement not to be true. As I recall they told us a mouth before ECS was not going to 9th grade. The staff of ECS also help the 8th grade students with the prosses. The second untold truth is that the stuff is renoceing on the students, they are just tring to give them a better education.
Following the statement's that sudents are 70% below grade average. This is saying that out of the whole school all grades , 6,7 and 8th are failing in school and I know as a student here, in ECS there are many bright and talented student in 6,7 and 8 grade.
Now Ms. Davis I now your child is not doing bad in school so don't take the whole school down with lies an abhor comments about the school that kids have come to know and love as their school.
As a student of ECS I am haughty to be a student here at ECS and I am sure that all the other student are pround to be a student, too!!!!!!

What a shame that the Equality student who apparently is an eighth grader, writes so poorly.

Child, based on your writing, spelling and grammar in your posting, Equality is cheating you out of a quality education.

I'm so sad for you.
