Out with the old, in with the neo-?
It's true. Bush's regime has finally come to an end and the masses are abuzz with excitement over the historic inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama and the possibility that his administration truly is "The Change We Need." But what kind of change are we talking about?
The President's new Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, is clearly not a representative of NYCoRE's views. At the same time we seem to be entering a new era of hope, with calls for social action from the federal level. How do we read all this? And what should the Left do in terms of organizing when we see that our agenda is still not being represented?
NYCoRE's next OPEN MEETING will be dedicated to discussing related issues and questions.*

A note regarding the readings for the discussion:
Attached here are two short articles written about Arne Duncan that we are asking participants to read prior to participating in the discussion.
These articles provide one perspective on Arne Duncan. We (NYCoRE) do not necessarily ascribe to this stance but will use these articles, along with other information that will be provided during the meeting to help all of us sharpen our analysis at this crucial point in the struggle over education.
For questions email: edwin@nycore.
Thanks,
